Sarah Gant Hankerson

Sarah Gant Hankerson, 72, of Rocky Mount, NC. transitioned on Sunday, May 8, 2022. A celebration of her amazing life will be held in Perry, FL. on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 11AM. Sarah is survived by her four children (Robert, Emanuel, Christopher and Paula), nine grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of loving family and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans-Walker Funeral Home.

Sarah Gant Hankerson was the daughter of Lillian* and Willie James Gant*, born in Perry, FL. on February 5, 1950. She had three sisters Betty (Joe), Barbara (Aaron) and Lillie “Faye" and one brother Jimmy* (Karen). Sarah had four children: Robert "Bobby", Emanuel "Manny", Christopher "Chris" and Paula "Miss Paula". She had nine grandchildren (Joi, Emanuel IV, Christopher "Lil Chris", Emilee, Skylar, Saint, Emilio, Ava and Eva) and one great-grandchild (Zuri). The love for her family was unconditional.

Sarah studied at Barry University in Miami, FL. having received her Bachelors and Masters degree. Throughout her life, Sarah had been a teacher, organizer, provider, consultant and entrepreneur having worked in the public school system, non-profit organizations and for-profit businesses providing quality services to her local communities. There was always a vision and always a plan. Sarah would consider herself a lifetime learner; having continued to learn new skills and knowledge to help those around her. Her love for gardening showed year-round with planting the seeds and growing flowers daily. Sarah also loved to cook and share her famous recipes. The joy of giving to others shined her light bright with anyone she came in contact with.

Sarah was a devoted member to St. Johns 3:16 Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, NC. She was truly a Woman of God.

An AMAZING woman, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend. Sarah will truly be missed and is survived across the United States by family and friends in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey and North Carolina.
