Born on September 2, 1942, Dr. Frank Brown, Jr, transitioned peacefully on January 2, 2026, in his home on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. The oldest son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Brown, he was the third of six children born and raised in Perry, Florida. With both parents playing frontline roles in the ministry of the Church of God of Prophecy, firsthand knowledge of and full engagement in Christian values and living became the backbone of his childhood life. His adult life, well-grounded in educational advancement, service, and commitment to others, started with obtaining a Bachelor’s degree from Florida A&M University. His subsequent draft into the military resulted in two years of service in the United States Army, during which time he achieved the respectable rank of Sergeant (E-5). Shortly after completing his military duties, he met and married the love of his life, Rutha. With her support and encouragement, he pursued further academic enrichment and earned a Master’s degree from Florida A&M University, and a Doctoral degree from Florida State University. The unconventional decision to move to the islands to live and raise his family afforded him a thirty-year career as an Educator, during which time he touched the lives of countless students across various academic levels. Following in the footsteps of his parents, who instilled in him a strong foundation and appreciation for real estate, he acquired and successfully managed several properties in addition to fulfilling his family and career obligations. His love for books and his avid interest in reading and learning equipped him with the knowledge and technical skills that supported his business ventures and investments. Through each of his accomplishments, he exemplified strong leadership- embracing growth and remaining undeterred by the challenges he encountered along the way. Our beloved was a steady presence and a source of support, guidance, and love to those who knew him. His faith, though rarely verbalized, was deeply ingrained and demonstrated through his kindness and generosity towards others. His legacy lives on through the lessons he taught, the values passed down, and the memories shared during his time with us. He is survived by his devoted wife and source of inspiration, Rutha Brown; his two children, Frank Brown III and Tarsha Brown (“Brown” Okocha); his two grandchildren, Jeremy and Jada Okocha; his brother, Eddie Brown (Edwina Brown); his sisters-in-law, Gloria Brown and Mary Brown: and his many loving nieces and nephews, along with extended family (Percy, Diane, Eddie, Lisa, Janasee) and friends. Father, husband, grandfather, brother, uncle, in-law, friend- he will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 7, 2026 at the Church of God of Prophesy, 613 W. Hampton Springs Avenue, Perry, Florida 32347.
